About Us

Let's Cook! is the brainchild of mother and daughter team Gay Shilling and Leslee Hart of Tyler, Texas.

As a young mother and teacher, Gay felt that children should learn to be as self sufficient as possible with household responsibilities. The learning began in the Shilling kitchen. Even today the boys, Mark and Derek, enjoy cooking for their families. Leslee not only enjoys cooking, but likes to create new recipes and observe professional chefs when she has the opportunity.

When friends and/or family come to dinner, Gay has noticed that the kids all want to "help" in the kitchen. As the kids become involved in preparing meals the conversation gravitates toward subjects such as how to use a measuring spoon or cup; the origins of certain spices; why margarine instead of butter, etc. Some occasions have merited an interesting history or science moment.

Leslee and Gay both agree that the teamwork necessary in the kitchen can teach all of us how to approach life situations, whether work or play, in a more successful and rewarding manner. In a nutshell, cooking is an excellent avenue for bringing families and friends together for good ole' food, fun, and fellowship.

Let's Cook! is simply a natural evolution from personal kitchen to public kitchen. We are excited and ready to get started.
