Ages 5-8 Summer Camp Session II: A Meal For All Seasons!
08/11/2014
Session 1 Runs from August 11th-14th, from 9am-12pm daily. Synopsis: During this 4 day (12 hours total) session, students will learn to identify when certain fruits and veges are “in season.” Knowing when to buy certain foods cuts down on grocery costs at home for parents (whoo hoo!) but also catches produce when they are at their freshest, and therefore packing the biggest nutritional punch. Each day will focus on planning a meal utilizing produce which is available in a given season (even though yes, it is summer!) Throughout the day, students will also participate in educational (and fun!) activities about nutrition, and how to make good food choices at home & at school. Kitchen Skills learned include (but are not limited to): Kitchen Safety and Sanitation Rules Reading a recipe Mise en place Measuring dry vs. liquid ingredients Common kitchen tools and how to use them Proper use of a mixer Oven safety; knowing when to ask for help How is a grocery store set up - where to find the fresh stuff Seasonal fruits and veges and when to find them Safe knife handling instructions (age appropriate skills using children’s safety kitchen utensils) Cutting, Peeling, Chopping, Slicing (again, age appropriate skills using children’s safety kitchen utensils) Price for camp is $175.00 Additional siblings are $150.00 each. Any child who attends both our summer camp sessions will receive $50.00 off the total price. Sessions do not need to be booked at the same time to receive discount. Promotional pricing must be arranged with the Let`s Cook staff, and a personalized invoice will be sent to you **Please note, if we have less than 8 kids per class - we have to cancel, so tell your friends!!!
